Communication Day Planned for Area High School Students at A-State on February 28
JONESBORO — An annual event held at Arkansas State University brings future college students interested in communication onto campus to learn more about what the university has to offer.
Communication Day is planned by the Department of Communication within the College of Liberal Arts and Communication.
Area high school students will be at Reng Student Union from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, to participate in planned events
“The main purpose of Communication Day is to expose prospective students to the highly versatile field of communication, including the various majors, careers and employable skills such as one-on-one and group interactions, persuasive argument, debate, social media content management, and digital marketing,” said Dr. Jill Simons, associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Communication.
Rachel Freeze, event coordinator and instructor of strategic communication, said this type of event is essential to foster a sense of community among students, faculty, alumni and industry professionals.
“These events encourage networking, inspire current students, and reinforce the importance of communication in various career paths,” Freeze continued.
It also provides an opportunity for those looking for their next stepping stone on the way to their future career to see what the university and department have to offer.
“An annual event like this can serve as a powerful recruitment tool by showcasing the vibrant community and opportunities within the department. Prospective students can gain firsthand insight into the curriculum, meet faculty and current students, and witness the practical and impactful projects happening within the department. Such events help paint a clear picture of the department’s culture and success, making it an attractive option for students considering a degree in communication,” added Freeze.
“The day will be packed with hands-on activities involving interactive workshops, panel discussions, lunch, and a closing reception to network with distinguished faculty and alumni,” said Simons.
There will be some competitions taking place including oral presentations, strategic communication and persuasive writing that students enter in advance.
