Dr. Smart’s nursing career began in 2002 after graduating from Southern University and Agricultural & Mechanical College in Baton Rouge, LA. After five years of practicing as a registered nurse, Dr. Smart obtained her Master of Nursing degree with a primary care nurse practitioner specialization from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA. As a registered nurse and family nurse practitioner, Dr. Smart also furthered her graduate nursing education by obtaining a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from The University of Alabama, a Post-Graduate Certificate in Nursing Informatics from Chamberlain University, and a Post-Graduate Certificate with a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specialization from Frontier Nursing University. Dr. Smart has worked in various specialties, including newborn nursery/transition nursery, neonatal intermediate care nursery, maternal-newborn nursing, chronic pain management, school-based health, college health, family medicine, pediatrics, home health, telehealth, and addiction medicine. In my free time, some of my hobbies include social media blogging/traditional blogging and serving in various leadership roles professionally and in her community.
