A native of Fort Smith, AR, Evan Mino comes to A-State from Arkansas Tech University, having served as the horn instructor there for the past 9 years, as well as the horn instructor at UA - Fort Smith from 2014 to 2022. His graduates from both schools have gone on to either join the workforce immediately as music educators, or continue on to pursue graduate degrees in performance at major schools across the country, very often with assistantships.
Evan is highly active and sought after as an orchestral musician, beginning his career as the Assistant Principal Horn of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra from 2010 to 2012 and maintaining a busy performance schedule to this day. He holds positions with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Fort Smith Symphony, and Texarkana Symphony Orchestra, and is frequently asked to play with other orchestras throughout the region. He also performs regularly as a recitalist and chamber musician.
He is also an accomplished keyboardist, serving as the organist/pianist at his church in Fort Smith. He has taught piano privately for many years as well as teaching Class Piano for both UA - Fort Smith and ATU, where he often accompanied his own horn students on recitals. He is looking forward to doing the same at A-State.
Evan holds a Bachelor’s degree from UA - Fort Smith, a Master’s degree from Southern Methodist University, and is nearing completion of his DMA at the University of Memphis. His primary teachers include Gregory Hustis, Eric Ruske, and Dale Clevenger, among many others. Music festival appearances include the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Kent Blossom Music Festival, and the Round Top Music Festival.
